Jean Lee

Born in Brunei, Jean moved to Canada in 1974. She has traveled extensively to parts of Europe, Asia, as well as Central and South America. Jean lived on a sailboat for 6 years and sailed the West Coast extensively before moving to Whistler. After 10 years in Whistler she recently returned home to Vancouver.

"My work is influenced by technology, nature, architecture and my travels. Its composition is inspired by the ever-present background of the West Coast wilderness, by the lines of fractured rock, aged ceramic and abstract aerial maps which are combined with fields of colour on highly textured surfaces. I seek to create tension within the canvas via formalized entity placement and the contrast between space and focal points. In this way a subtle language is created between the elements of the piece which can be at best half understood."
