Brittani Faulkes

Brittani!s education in Fine Arts and Japanese Studies at Vancouver's Emily Carr College of Art and Design, Sapporo's Bisen College of Art, and the University of British Columbia led her from a BA, BFA, and MA to PhD studies. Her artistic roots are in drawing, photography, and computer graphics. Brittani works primarily with pastels and oils. Her work has been collected
and exhibited throughout North America and Japan, and she has been published in numerous magazines and books.

The west coast is an important influence in Brittani's art. Her father, a fisheries biologist, used to bring her to his lab and have her draw detailed images of anything small enough to fit under the microscope's lens. She grew up exploring tidal pools, learning survival skills on the Pacific Northwest's rugged coast, hiking the coastal mountains, and participating in various water sports from scuba diving to fishing. Avid explorers, Brittani and her husband and dog have travelled thousands of miles exploring the backroads of the northwest. Wherever she goes, sketchbooks and a camera are always ready to record the standout scenery in her travels. Whether realistic or abstract, Brittani's artwork examines the symbiotic relationship between her self and environment.
